Qualcomm returns to the data center with Dragonfly chips and a Meta deal

Qualcomm has laid out its most detailed push yet into the data center, unveiling a full silicon roadmap built around a new server CPU, a fresh AI inference accelerator and an unconventional memory design meant to sidestep the industry’s reliance on high-bandwidth memory.
At its Investor Day on June 24, 2026, the company introduced the Qualcomm Dragonfly C1000, a data-center CPU built on its custom Oryon cores. Qualcomm describes it as a 250-plus core chiplet design running at frequencies above 5 GHz, delivering more than twice the performance per watt of competitive server CPUs and offering over 2 TB/s of PCIe Gen 7 connectivity. Commercial availability is expected in 2028.
The company also detailed High Bandwidth Compute (HBC), a near-memory architecture designed to break the so-called memory wall. Qualcomm claims HBC provides six times the bandwidth per watt of HBM and 200 times the capacity per watt of SRAM. Its Dragonfly AI250 accelerator, paired with HBC Gen 1, is rated at 133 TB/s of effective memory bandwidth per card, an 18-fold jump over the earlier AI200. The forthcoming AI300, using HBC Gen 2, is positioned for a 54-fold bandwidth gain over the AI200 and four to eight times better performance per watt than GPU-based systems. The AI200, AI250 and AI300 form an annual accelerator cadence.
The headline endorsement came from Meta, which signed a multi-generation agreement to deploy the C1000 across its next-generation server fleet. Qualcomm said more than 35 technology partners backed the launch, and it is targeting over $15 billion in data-center revenue by fiscal 2029.
